In my opinion, every baker should have a go-to frosting recipe. The frosting is one of the most important parts of a recipe, especially in cakes and cupcakes. My favorite type of frosting is a buttercream frosting. I knew I had to figure the best buttercream frosting recipe out there and after testing many batches of frosting, I think I have found the perfect ratio of ingredients. I’m going to teach you the trick to getting perfectly sweet, light, and creamy buttercream frosting. I promise you will love it!

Sophia’s Perfect Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup salted butter (Softened)
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter (Softened)
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 2 ½ cup powdered sugar.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. In a bowl attached to a stand mixer, beat the softened salted and unsalted butter on medium speed for 5 minutes, scraping down the bowl occasionally.
  2. Add vanilla extract into the butter and beat for another minute.
  3. Alternate adding powdered sugar with adding heavy cream into the butter mixture at low speed.
  4. Once all of the powdered sugar and heavy cream have been added into the bowl, beat the frosting for an additional 3 minutes on high speed.
  5. Scrape down the bowl and enjoy!

The images below will show you how I make the delicious frosting.

These are the brands of ingredients I use. Feel free to use any brand you want.
Add all the butter into a bowl attached to a stand mixer.
Beat butter on medium speed for 5 minutes. Beating the butter for a long time incorporates air into the butter which helps to make the frosting light and fluffy.
Add your vanilla extract into the butter and beat for another minute.
Alternate adding the powdered sugar and heavy cream into the butter mixture. Make sure to do this at a low speed so the powdered sugar does not explode everywhere in your kitchen.
This is the heavy cream.
Once all of the ingredients are combined, beat on high speed for an additional 3 minutes. This will help ensure that the frosting is creamy and all of the ingredients are thoroughly mixed together.
YUM!

That’s it! The trick to getting perfect buttercream frosting is whipping it for a good amount of time. I hope you will make this frosting and let me know how it turns out in the comments. Don’t forget the most important ingredient, love. Enjoy!
