One of the most classic dessert sauces out there is caramel sauce. It is so sweet and decadent and impossible to dislike. Also, caramel sauce just happens to be super easy to make! Yes, I know, caramel sauce from scratch sounds scary but it only takes at most THREE ingredients to make. That’s it! It’s that simple. I’m going to share my secret caramel sauce recipe with you and I hope you will try it!

Sophia’s SECRET Caramel Sauce!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 5 tablespoons salted butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Directions:

  1. Heat white sugar in a medium saucepan over high heat, stirring constantly with a high heat resistant spatula or whisk.
  2. The sugar will start to clump. Keep mixing until the sugar fully dissolves and turns into an amber-colored liquid.
  3. Once the mixture turns amber, pour butter in immediately. The caramel should begin to bubble once the butter is added.
  4. Pour in the heavy cream once the butter is fully combined with the sugar. The mixture should bubble and rise quickly.
  5. Keep mixing until heavy cream is combined. Turn off the heat.
  6. Let the caramel cool completely.
  7. Transfer into a jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. The caramel will solidify in the fridge. Simply reheat in the microwave for 1 minute and you will have warm, gooey, caramel sauce.
  8. Enjoy!

The images below will show you how I make the delicious caramel sauce.

These are the brands of ingredients I use. Feel free to use any brand you like.
These are the measured ingredients.
Heat a medium saucepan over high heat.
Pour sugar into the saucepan.
Continuously mix sugar in the saucepan with a high heat-resistant spatula or whisk. Either works great.
You should start to see small clumps of sugar form. Keep mixing
The clumps of sugar should start to become bigger. Keep mixing.
The clumps of sugar should start to melt and become a light brown color. The light brown color turns amber as you keep mixing.
Once your caramel has turned amber, add the salted butter. I cut my butter into cubes to it would melt easier. Keep mixing.
Pour in your heavy cream.
The caramel should bubble as soon as you pour in the heavy cream. The bubbles will start small and look like this photo.
These are the bubbles once you start mixing in the heavy cream.
KEEP MIXING!!
Turn off the heat and let the caramel cool completely.
YES PLEASE!
Store in an airtight container or any jar of your choice. Store in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave and enjoy your caramel sauce anytime!

This recipe is super easy and super delicious! You can enjoy this as a dipping sauce, topping, filling, or simply eat it by the spoonful because it’s just that good.
